The Taj Mahal was built between 1631 and 1653. It took 20,000 workers for this 22 years. It was built by the ruler (Shahjahan) in memory of his wife who died from complications from the birth of their 14th child.
We’ve seen bigger complexes in the past 3 weeks or so. However, the Taj Mahal is unique in its “over the top” detail. The main structure (the tomb building) is 243 feet tall of total white marble. That alone is pretty special. But add to this the relief carving work and the inlays of precious stone, and it is difficult to fathom.

The cloudless blue sky as a backdrop for the white marble of the Taj Mahal made the view seem not-quite real.
