For the first 30 or 40 days of our cruise, we had no “port lecturers.” We did have specialty lecturers such as the weapons inspector, but nothing that deal with the upcoming port.
Several passengers had complained about the lack of port lecturers. I’m not sure whether that made the change happen (like had Princess viewed this as a cost savings?), or if Princess had just decided that these early port did not need these lectures.
Regardless we now typically have two types of port lectures. First is someone who talks about the history of the country. Second is someone who talks about tours that are available, either through the ship or on your own. Sometimes one expert can cover both the history and the points of interest in the port.
These lectures make a big difference. As economic time get tough, it is worth asking when you book whether this type of lectures are part of your ship’s offerings.
