Our next stop is in Salalah, Oman. Yea, I know all of you have probably been saying: “man, I really want to go to Salalah, Omen.” The pickings may be pretty sparse at this port, especially given our recent ports. We did get some perspective from the recent port lecturer.
Oman is on the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It gets monsoon winds in the summer months, so it has a unique climate for the peninsula. It is tropical, with lots of lush vegetation. They are most famous for the frankincense tree. It seems not to transplant well.
The lecturer said that Oman was quite primitive even in 1970. At that time they only had 2 schools (colleges?) in the whole country. As oil came in, they developed some, but we are not expecting much given what we have been told.
