Karnak Temple

This is the largest place of worship ever built. It stretches over 62 acres and took over 2,000 years to build. The reason it took so long to build is that each pharaoh had to add something special to it, an note worth compare to what already existed, in order to demonstrate the pharaoh’s superior status and to please the God Amun.

Photos:
1) There are 132 of these huge columns in one section of the temple. They are to make you feel that you are in a forest or grove of these giant “trees” or “mushrooms.” It would take over 8 people holding outstretched hands to encircle one column. Each column is about 70 feet high.
2) This single obelisk is cut from piece of granite and weighs over 900-tons. (How did they transport and erect something this size 3000 years ago?)
