A Great Postcard Idea

One of the passengers that we sat with at the dance band venue tonight had a really great idea for post cards.

The ship will print copies of your digital photos for 15 cents each, provided you do a minimum of 30…so you can get 30 prints for $4.50. This passenger prints out photos, then glues them with a glue stick onto generic post cards. This makes them thick and substantive enough to mail. So friends receive an interesting, personal post card. He does not have to waste time trying to find good post cards, just bring a pack of cheap ones, use the free ones from the ship, or buy a cheap pack at some port. If you don’t have 30 people you mail to, then some shots may be a week or so old, but judging from the mailing results we have seen, you are often a week or more behind on some ports.

We love this idea and wish we had thought about it or knew it earlier.

This particular passenger has another interesting story. He promised his grandson that he would mail a post card to the grandson from each port. At some ports this was a problem. The passenger did not get back to the ship in time to mail the card, or he did not yet have the correct postage. At one port, in desperation, he put the card in a bottle, enclosed some local money, and asked the person finding the bottle to mail the card. His grandson got the card!

When another passenger shared this story with the ship’s captain, the captain turned pale. (You do not throw plastic bottles into the sea from one’s ship!) Someone quickly changed the subject, and everything was then okay.

At another port this passenger threw the card with a weight onto the dock with a similar request. This too worked.
