When we originally booked this cruise, many friends asked if we were doing this with anyone else. We answered “no,” just the two of us. Many wondered how this would work…”you mean that you are going to be 117 days on a ship where you only know each other.”
This has absolutely NOT been an issue. You meet people, and you interact again with some, and not with others.
I believe that I know 50-60 people by name. (I am not much of a numbers person than a people person, so this is an astounding large number for me.) I’d guess that Kathleen knows 80-100 people by name. Some of these people we may not see or talk to for 5-10 days, then see again. Some we see more frequently. There are probably 30-40 people that we might contact when we want to book a private on-land excursion tour and want to look for others that might be interested, and the same number of people who might do the same with us.
I suspect that there could be a handful of people that we might see some time in the future after the cruise has ended.
The learning point here is that there is no issue of concern about going on a major cruise where you do not know other people ahead of time.
Note how Kathleen decided to go into Cairo on her own and I decided to stay in port. Neither of us had a second thought that this might be an issue. That shows how easily one adjusts to a group of totally new people.
