2) Carpet School. This is our daughter, Megan, at a “carpet school.” This is where they make the silk carpets with the hand-tied knots. They use young girls in Egypt because their small hands allow for the intricate work. The girls go to school from 8:00am until 1:00pm, then work from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Is this schooling, or child labor? We were told that only girls with superior special perception get these jobs because they have to be able to follow a pattern. They may earn more for their father. It is difficult to form a judgment on whether this is a good thing or not.
