Plans for Next 3 Days

Tomorrow we dock in Ho Chi Minh City. (This was “Saigon” prior to the end of the war. Locals call the city Ho Chi Minh City, but call the central part of the city Saigon.)

We have an “overland excursion” booked for this port. We fly out of Saigon to Cambodia for 2 nights, then return to the ship in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. (If you think of Princess Sihanouk, the city name makes more sense.)

Our main target of this excursion is to visit Angkor Wat. This is one of the 7 wonders of the world: the largest religious building in the world…from the 12th century. We’ll also visit Phnom Penh on our trip back to the ship. (This trip combined with the Beijing overland excursion makes this the most active, concentrated “leave the ship” portion of our entire cruise. Hard to believe we go from near freezing temperature on the Great Wall to 90 degree F temperature in 3-5 days.)

We just found out that we do not leave for this tour until 3:00pm tomorrow, so we just booked a tour of Saigon for tomorrow morning. So I may or may not have time to post a blog on the Saigon trip prior to leaving for Cambodia. If not, it will be posted 3 days from now. Because of this excursion, we’ll have 2 to 3 days of postings to catch up with when we get back.
