Deer on Miyajima Island

Deer are viewed as a sacred animal on this island. As a result, they have learned that nobody will harm them. Our guide said that they live in the mountains, but, like businessmen, they “come to work” (hang out in town) at about 9:00am and leave at 5:00pm. They eat paper, so there have been some sad stories about passports and currency.
